The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University is seeking applications for a tenure/tenure track faculty position. This position will be offered at a rank commensurate with the qualifications of the applicant. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with areas of expertise in materials for energy conversion and storage. Exceptional candidates in other areas in line with current strengths of the department (nanomaterials, biomaterials, advanced materials design and processing, polymers and electronic materials), will also be considered.

About Us

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is home to a world-class faculty engaged in cutting-edge research in nanomaterials, biomaterials, electronic and photonic materials, soft materials, and advanced materials development. The department has experienced unprecedented growth in the last several years and was ranked 10th in the nation according to the 2006 Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index. The department currently has 11 tenure-track faculty, 90 undergraduate students, 70 graduate students, and annual research expenditures of about $4M. Among the faculty, there are 3 NSF Career, 1 PECASE, 1 NIH, ARO, and Whittaker Young Investigator awardees.

The $37M, 155,000 square foot Centralized Research Facilities house state-of-the-art equipment including a TEM, ESEM, FIB, Raman, and MicroCT. In addition, the university-wide A. J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute plays a large role in departmental research and its director is a materials faculty member. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University is also home to an NSF-sponsored Interdisciplinary Graduate Engineering Research Traineeship (IGERT) site, and a Department of Education-funded Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need program, two NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates sites, and an NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Teachers site.
