Metals and Materials Science in the News!

The New York times recently contained an article on the use of materials science engineering to produce steels of various strengths, toughness, and stiffness as used in automobiles.  The article is www.nytimes.com/2009/09/15/science/15steel.html .  Featured, is the Indiana Arcelor Mittal steel plant.  Dr. Mitra Taheri has organized a field trip to the local Arcelor Mittal steel plant on November 20th for the MATE 366 (Metals Processing) class.  Anyone else interested in joining is certainly welcome and should contact Dr. Taheri.

 LAB SAFETY is no joke!

Take it upon yourself to ensure that an incident like this will not happen in the MSE Department.

Complete your safety training:

Go to www.drexelsafetyandhealth.com

  • Select the "Training" tab at the top
  • Select the "Research Personnel Laboratory Safety Training" item from the list
  • When you've completed the program save or print out a copy of the final screen. You can use this record to prove that you've completed the program, and to show the CRF to use the instruments during your department, Senior Design, or MS research.

 Drexel Engineers Week Celebration

Drexel's National Engineers Week Comes to an End...

Drexel’s College of Engineering's 2009 National Engineers Week is officially complete.  This nationally recognized celebration raises public awareness of engineers’ indispensible contributions to all aspects of life.

A big thank you to all of the students who helped out or participated in any of the National Engineers Week activities. Please fill MESPO in on any awards that were won, so that your accomplishments can be recognized on the MESPO website!

Congratulations to:

  • Judy Trachtmen, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in CoE

Be sure to stop by and congratulate Judy. We are truly lucky to have an Academic and Financial Coordinator who is always willing and able to help the students in so many ways.

  • Surya Kalidindi, recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award in CoE

Surya’s leadership of the Department and his continuing contributions to the successful operation of the Centralized Characterization Facility are exemplary.
