Article I: Name
The name of this student body will be the Drexel University Materials Research Society Chapter or the Drexel MRS Chapter.
Article II: Mission Statement
The Materials Research Society (MRS) is an organization of materials researchers from academia, industry, and government that promotes communication for the advancement of interdisciplinary materials research to improve the quality of life. The Drexel MRS Chapter is a student organization intended to promote the activities of the Materials Research Society amongst the student body and educate students of other disciplines who may be interested about materials research.
Article III: Membership
Section I: Definition
Membership in the society shall be open to all full time and part time undergraduate and graduate students interested in materials research and engineering. Membership is voluntary and students who choose to join, should join the Materials Research Society (MRS) first and then express their wish to join the Drexel MRS Chapter by attending meetings and participating in student activities.
Section II: Rights of Membership
A. All members may vote in the Drexel MRS Chapter elections and referendums.
B. Any member may hold office if they are elected or appointed according to elections guidelines and procedures.
C. All members may speak and be heard at Drexel MRS Chapter meetings, upon proper recognition by the presiding officer.
D. All members have the right to access Drexel MRS Chapter information and records, including (but not limited to) official meeting minutes, and all other actions not of a confidential nature.
Article IV: Organizational Structure
An executive board within the Drexel MRS Chapter will be defined as: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The executive board (alternatively President) will delegate responsibilities for action to committees of the Drexel MRS Chapter. The executive board will also delegate responsibilities for meeting with administrators and faculty outside of the Drexel MRS Chapter meetings.
All officers will be expected to solicit their constituent’s views on pertinent legislation and general student life and welfare. Drexel MRS Chapter meetings will serve as an additional forum for the statement of concerns.
Section I: Responsibilities of Office
A. The President and Vice President shall supervise the organizations affairs and activities. The President and Vice President are the executive administrative, presiding, and reporting officers. The President and Vice President will work with the faculty advisor and act as liaisons to the departmental faculty and all other University Officials including but not limited to the University President and Board of Trustees, in the absence of an alternative designee.
B. The Secretary shall be responsible for posting notices of all regular and special meetings and shall keep a record of such meetings. The Secretary will be responsible for correspondence.
C. The Treasurer shall be responsible for the financial records of the organization, collection of dues and other fees when required, for the disbursement of funds, and for reporting such information in detail when requested by the membership.
Section II. Committees
A. Every member of the Drexel MRS Chapter may serve on a Drexel MRS Chapter committee.
B. Committee chairs will be elected by the members of each committee.
C. Committee reports will be given at the Drexel MRS Chapter meetings, as required.

Article I: Meetings and Legislation
A. Meetings
1. Meetings of the Drexel MRS Chapter will be held at least twice per quarter.
2. The executive board is encouraged to meet often and whenever necessary.
3. The President and Vice President will be responsible for calling executive board meetings and special meetings of Drexel MRS Chapter.
B. Legislation
1. Legislation must have a majority of current voting membership in attendance in favor in order to be passed.
Article II: Elections
A. Elections shall be administered in the Spring Term (end of academic year).
B. All candidates for office in the Drexel MRS Chapter must be in good academic standing with the University during the term in which elections are held. They also must be MRS members.
C. All results will be made available to the public as soon as they are known to the elected.
D. Vacancies will be advertised publicly within a reasonable time of the known opening.
E. The Executive Board shall decide whether to hold an open election or appoint a new officer to complete the term.
Article III: Amendment
These bylaws and this constitution may be amended by majority vote of the Drexel MRS Chapter members present at any regular or special meeting. Proposed amendments must be advertised to all members at least one week in advance of the vote.
