Program Overview

Unique educational and training objectives of this proposal include:

  • Enable greater numbers of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, including women and minorities, to pursue interdisciplinary doctoral study in computational materials science and engineering in a collaborative effort led by the MSE department with major support from other Computational Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE) related departments, the School of Education (SoE), and the College of Arts and Sciences (CoAS) at Drexel University.
  • Enable Fellows to participate in multi-disciplinary research and establish leadership roles in the emerging fields of advanced computational materials research in novel materials and nanotechnology, defense and military applications, manufacturing, design and optimization, advanced characterization and signal processing, and bioengineering and bioinformatics.
  • Prepare Fellows to pursue careers in academia and prestigious national laboratories.
  • Enable Fellows to participate in domestic or international research collaborations and/or international industrial internships as an integral component of their graduate education.
  • Disseminate lessons learned from educating CMSE GAANN Fellows through consortia, professional organizations, and workshops.
