Program Overview
Unique educational and training objectives of this proposal include:
- Enable greater numbers of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds,
including women and minorities, to pursue interdisciplinary doctoral study in materials
related fields in the MSE department at Drexel University, with active collaboration with
other engineering departments, the School of Education (SoE), the College of Arts and
Sciences, and Drexel University College of Medicine.
- Enable Fellows to participate in multi-disciplinary research and establish leadership roles in
the emerging fields in advanced materials research such as Nanomaterials, Biomaterials,
Materials Design, Particulate Materials Processing, and Electronic and Photonic Materials.
- Prepare Fellows to pursue careers in academia and prestigious national laboratories.
- Enable Fellows to participate in international research collaborations and/or on domestic or
international industrial internships as an integral component of their graduate education.
- Disseminate lessons learned from educating GAANN-DREAM Fellows through consortia,
professional organizations, and workshops.
