Andrew Kopek

What is your name? Andrew Kopek
What school are you currently attending? Ohio State University
What year will you be starting in the fall? Based on my credit hours, I will be a senior. However, because I changed my major from chemistry to chemical engineering, I have three more years of school before graduation.
Why did you choose to attend the SENSORS program? . I chose to attend the SENSORS program for several reasons--to learn about scientific research (how it is conducted, how to write a research proposal, etc.), to earn money, and to meet new people and establish new friendships.
Who are you working with, and what research are you doing? My faculty advisors are Drs. Wei Shih and Wan Shih. The graduate student I am working with is named Hui Li. I am doing research on quantum dots, which are semiconductor nanoparticles that display unique photoluminescence properties.
What are your goals/aspirations for the future? My ultimate goal is to do work in biotechnology or nanotechnology. In order to achieve my goal, I may end up going to graduate school. After I earn my bachelor’s degree I will apply for a job. If I am unsatisfied with all of the job offers I am given, I will go to graduate school.
