Dream : Faculty : Material Design
Advances in modern technology are often limited by the multi-functional performance criteria required of materials. For example, several of materials used in bioimplants require good structural properties as well as excellent biocompatibility. Such multi-functional performance criterion place severe, and often contradicting, demands on material design. The traditional approach to new materials development relies heavily on empiricism (and serendipity in processing). This has to give way to a more rigorous mathematically based approach that exploits recent advances in multi-scale microstructural modeling and simulation for optimized design of multi-functional materials.
