Interview

Q: What is your name?
A: Melissa Schillo

Q: What school are you currently attending?
A: Ohio State University

Q: What year will you be starting in the fall?
A: Junior

Q: Why did you choose to attend the DREAM program?
A: An REU program will help me to have an edge over the other students in my classes. In the fall, when I start taking classes that are more in depth in my Materials Science major, I will already be familiar with equipment and terms used, and possibly even whole concepts. Another big advantage to being involved in this program will be that it gives me the experience that is looked for by an employer for a future internship.

Q: Who are you working with, and what research are you doing?
A: I am working with Dr. Wei-Heng Shih and graduate student Hui Li on a program involving the synthesis of quantum dots.

Q: What are your goals/aspirations for the future?
A: After I graduate from Ohio State with a B.S. in Materials Science, I plan on continuing my education and receiving my Masters. I am unsure of the area that I would like to specialize in, but am considering polymers and biomaterials.
