Dream : DREAM Fellows : 2004 Fellows : Shadbeh Taghizadeh
Interview
Q: What is your name?
A: Shadbeh Nazanin Taghizadeh
Q: What school are you currently attending?
A: University of Massachusetts Lowell
Q: What year will you be starting in the fall?
A: Junior
Q: Why did you choose to attend the DREAM program?
A: The reason why I chose the DREAM program was to gain experience in the research field, to know how to live on my own, and to explore a new place.
Q: Who are you working with, and what research are you doing?
A: I am working with Dr. Richard Knight and his thermal spray research team. I am mostly working with a grad student, Varun Gupta. My involvement in this group is to analyze powders by looking at their percent crystallinity through DSC, to examine the size distribution of particles through HORIBA, and to examine the shell of particles through SEM.
Q: What are your goals/aspirations for the future?
A: My goals for the future are to go into the Bioengineering field. Since I am a plastics engineering student at Umass Lowell, I am very interested in prosthetics. I want to learn and help advance plastics in the medical industry. That’s what my plans are for now. Thermal spray is a very interesting field, and being in this program made me learn a whole lot about it. So, who knows, maybe my plans will change and go into thermal spray?
