Lauren Jackson
Interview
Q: What is your name?
A: Lauren Jackson
Q: What school are you currently attending?
A: North Carolina State University
Q: What year will you be starting in the fall?
A: Sophomore
Q: Why did you choose to attend the DREAM program?
A: I wanted to have an experience similar to graduate school so that I can make a more informed decision about my goals. I was also curious about the kind of research going on outside of North Carolina as well as meeting other students interested materials engineering.
Q: Who are you working with, and what research are you doing?
A: I’m working with Dr. Richard Knight, Dr. Richard Cairncross and Milan Ivosevic on thermally sprayed polymer coatings. We are determining the sliding wear properties of pure nylon and nylon/silica composite coatings.
Q: What are your goals/aspirations for the future?
A: I am going to work towards a Masters degree concentrating in semiconductors as part of a B.S./M.S. program at NC State. After that, I will either pursue a Ph.D. or go into industry. Someday I hope to be in a setting tied to national defense.
