Materials In Action

"Students should see a Ph.D. as a long term investment in their future, which, in return will reward them with a fulfilling and exciting life..."

Research Highlights

These images were taken during diametrical compression on our new Skyscan 1172 MicroCT.  The instrument allows fully 3D, non-destructive evaluation of the internal structure and composition of a specimen based on differences in x-ray absorption.  With the aid of a mechanical testing stage, diametrical compression tests can be interrupted at any load and the specimen can be scanned to obtain full three dimensional analysis of failure.  To learn more about the MicroCT system, visit the MicroCT site.
