These images were taken during diametrical compression on our new Skyscan 1172 MicroCT. The instrument allows fully 3D, non-destructive evaluation of the internal structure and composition of a specimen based on differences in x-ray absorption. With the aid of a mechanical testing stage, diametrical compression tests can be interrupted at any load and the specimen can be scanned to obtain full three dimensional analysis of failure.
