All three entries submitted by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University to the American Ceramic Society's annual Ceramographic Competition received awards. The entry presented by Ph.D. student Goknur Cambaz and Postdoctoral Research Associate Gleb Yushin entitled, "Conservation of Shape During Transformation of beta-SiC to Carbon" was awarded 1st place in the Combined Techniques category. Ph.D. student Svetlana Dimovski's entries, "Oxidation of an AlN-HfB2 Ceramic Composite" and "Formation of Aluminum Borate Whiskers Through Oxidation of an AlN - HfB2 Ceramic Composite," received 2nd place in the SEM category and 3rd place in the Combined Techniques category respectively. The competition took place during the 106th Annual Meeting and Exposition of the American Ceramic Society in Indianapolis, April 18-21, 2004. Congratulations to Goknur, Gleb, and Svetlana, and to advisor Yury Gogotsi on this fantastic accomplishment!
