Members of the Philadelphia "Liberty Bell" Chapter of ASM International visited the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University on May 20th, 2004. Facilities showcased with tours and demonstrations included the CPPM thermal spray lab directed by tour host Dr. Richard Knight, FASM and Vice President of ASM's Thermal Spray Society, the electron microscopy and nano-indenter labs, key parts of Drexel's centralized materials characterization facilities, and the fibrous materials laboratory.
Tour participants included 2003-04 Chapter Chairperson Jim Watters of Delaware Valley Utility Advisors, incoming 2004-05 Chapter Chairperson Scott Nyce of Solar Atmospheres, Roger Jones of Solar Atmospheres, and James Nagy of Solar Atmospheres together with six home schooling students, Seth Beckley-10th grade, James Hogarth-12th grade, Jeff Kiser-12th grade, Andrew Nagy-9th grade, Joel Nagy-11th grade, and Dan Nicolosi-12th grade, all interested in pursuing engineering as a career. Drexel participants included graduate student Jon Thomas, also a director of the Liberty Bell Chapter, and MSE staff members Dee Breger, Dustin Doss, and Tim Kelly.
