A group of Drexel Materials students came away with cash prizes in various competitions at the Society for the Advancement of Materials Processing and Engineering (SAMPE) 2004 Conference held in Long Beach, CA, May 16-20.
In the Ph.D. division, Jason Lyons (advisor: Frank Ko) took 2nd place ($800) for his paper entitled, "Advancements in Melt-Electrospinning of Thermoplastic Polymers."
Milan Ivosevic (advisor: Rick Knight) came in 3rd ($500) in the same division for his paper entitled, "Solid Particle Erosion Resistance of Thermally Sprayed Functionality Graded Polymer/Ceramic Coatings."
Nick Titchenal (advisor: Frank Ko) received 2nd place ($500) in the M.S. division for his paper entitled, "Nanocomposite Carbon Fibers through the co-electrospinning of PAN and MWNT."
Additionally, materials students Gwaenalle Proust (advisor: Surya Kalidindi), Jing Zhang (advisor: Antonios Zavaliangos), Brenton Woods (advisor: Ihab Kamel), Josh Houskamp (advisor: Surya Kalidindi), Lyons, Elizabeth Hoffman (advisor: Michel Barsoum), Titchenal, Kris Behler (advisor: Yury Gogotsi), and Hoa Lam (advisor: Frank Ko) took 2nd place in the SAMPE bridge building poster competition and were awarded $100.00.
