Lalit Bansal, Ph.D. student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is one of the first recipents of the SPIE/Newport Research Excellence Award presented by SPIE: The Internation Society for Optical Engineering and sponsored by the Newport Corporation, a leading global supplier of advanced technology products and systems to the semiconductor, communications, electronics, and research markets. The Newport Research Excellence Awards are presented to students presenting papers at the 49th SPIE Annual Meeting in Denver, CO. Lalit will be presenting two papers: "Polypyrrole as a chemochromic transducer for optical fiber chemical sensors by L.Bansal and M. El-Sherif" and "Study on adhesion of thin film coatings of polypyrrole on glass substrate for mechanical durability of sensor devices by L. Bansal & M. El-Sherif." The award will be presented at a special dinner celebration on Monday, August 2nd, in Denver, CO.
