The work of Dr. Wei-Heng Shih's group has been mentioned in the August 2004 issue of the American Ceramic Society Bulletin. The "Technology Briefs" section discusses Dr. Shih's new process of lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMN-PT) ceramics. PMN-PT is an important multifunctional material for sensors, actuators, and smart systems. The process involves an innovative coating approach to synthesize and sinter the complex oxide at a lower temperature in one single step. A provisional patent application has been filed for this process. The write-up can be found at: http://www.ceramicbulletin.org/months/08-04/techbriefs.pdf.
