Drexel University Department of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) alumnus and chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering Visiting Advisory Board William E. Frazier, Ph.D. (B.S. 1981, M.S. 1984, and Ph.D. 1987) has been promoted into the executive core of the Navy in the category of Scientific-Professional (ST). Frazier's new title is Chief Technology Officer/Chief Scientist in the Research and Engineering Sciences Department at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, MD. An organization of 36,000 employees, NAVAIR only employees four senior professionals, of which this position is one. In his new position, Frazier provides technical direction and develops strategic plans for the research, development, and transition of naval aviation technologies. He serves as the Command's primary scientific advisor and consultant in the discipline of materials science and is responsible for performing, stimulating, planning, coordinating, and reviewing the scientific value of RDT&E of all materials and processes.
