Drexel’s Graduate Students Win ASM Poster Contest

Drexel University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering placed first, second, and third at the ASM International Liberty Bell Chapter's annual graduate student poster contest on Thursday, April 20, 2006. Seventeen students from the department exhibited posters.

Below is a list of the award winners:

1st Place: M.S. student Varun Gupta, (advisor: Richard Knight), for his poster entitled, "Thermal Spraying of Multi-Scale Polymer/Ceramic Composite Coatings," authored by V. Gupta, M. Ivosevic, R. Cairncross, and R. Knight ($500)

2nd Place: Ph.D. student Davide Mattia, (advisor: Yury Gogotsi), for his poster entitled, "Controlling Surface Chemistry and Structure of Carbon Nanotubes for Nanofluidic Applications," authored by D. Mattia, G. Korneva, M.P. Rossi, and Y. Gogotsi ($300)

3rd Place: Ph.D. student Surojit Gupta, (advisor: Michel Barsoum), for his poster entitled, "Tribology of MAX Phases and Their Composites," authored by D. Filimonov, S. Gupta, M. W. Barsoum, T. Palanisamy and E. Passman ($200)
