MSE graduate students Marko Knezevic and Siddhartha Pathak, along with Wan-ting Hu and Jane Zhen Cai of the LeBow College of Business, have won the 2007 Business Plan Competition sponsored by the Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship in Technology. They will receive a cash prize of $500.
Knezevic and Pathak both work in MSE Professor and Department Head Dr. Surya Kalidindi’s research group, Microstructure Sensitive Design (MSD). In their proposed business plan, MSD is formed into a startup company specializing in identification of new engineering materials (currently metals) and optimization of the processing routes for the development of these materials. The proposed company has developed a software (also known as MSD) that can guide a potential customer in the rigorous design of a processing recipe to meet a set of designer specified properties.
Winning teams of the Business Plan Competition can go on to develop a full business plan for the next phase of the contest. The Baiada Center offers mentors and business plan development workshops to assist teams in completing their projects.
