Dr. Yury Gogotsi Receives DOE Grant to Research Carbide Derived Carbons

Published on Tuesday July 24, 2007

Dr. Yury Gogotsi, director of the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, is the recipient of a $360,000 award from the Department of Energy Office of Basic Energy Sciences for the project titled, "Silicon Carbide Derived Carbons: Experiments and Modeling." Dr. Gogotsi will act as PI on the three-year project, which becomes active on September 1, 2007. The project is a joint effort between Dr. Gogotsi and Dr. Miklos Kertesz, professor in the Chemistry Department of Georgetown University. Dr. Gogotsi's research team will conduct the synthesis of various carbon nanostructures using silicon carbide as a precursor while Dr. Kertesz' Georgetown team will develop models of the carbon structures and their growth.
