Dr. Roger D. Doherty, A. W. Grosvenor Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is the co-author of Thermo-Mechanical Processing of Metallic Materials, a textbook published by Elsevier in the Pergamon Materials Series in 2007.
Fellow co-authors include Bert Verlinden (Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Katholieke Universitet Leuven, Heverlee, Belgium), Julian Driver (Materials Centre, Ecole des Mines de Saint-Etienne, Saint Etienne Cedex, France), and MSE alumnus (Ph.D. 1995, advisor Roger Doherty) Indradev Samajdar (Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Powai, Mumbai, India). The Pergamon series is edited by the late Dr. Robert W. Cahn, former Department Head and Dean of Engineering at Sussex University where Dr. Doherty worked as a faculty member from 1965-1982.
This book unites a wide range of topics never before published together in the same volume. The four authors, all of whom are actively involved in research and teaching in the field, describe the current methods of thermo-mechanical processing used for the full range of modern alloys. They carefully relate the processes used to the microstructure developed by the processing and resulting properties of those alloys. The book is designed for graduate students entering the field and for engineers immersed in this area in industry.
