Following the recommendation of the CoE Administrative Council, Dr. Yury Gogotsi has been appointed Trustee Chair Professor of Materials Science & Engineering.
Since joining Drexel University in 2000, Gogotsi served as founder and director of the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, W.M. Keck Institute for Attofluidic Nanotube-based Probes, and Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, establishing a world-class Centralized Research Facility and an Industry Consortium, raising more than $10M in funding for research and education. Gogotsi received his MS (1984) and PhD (1986) degrees from Kiev Polytechnic and a DSc degree from the Ukrainian Academy of Science, in 1995. His research group is at the frontier of research on nanostructured materials, such as nanodiamond, nanoporous carbons and nanotubes for energy-related, biomedical and other applications.
Gogotsi has co-authored two books, edited 12 books, obtained more than 20 patents, many of which have been licensed to industry. He authored over 250 research papers, many of which have been published in premier journals including Nature, Science, Nature Materials, and others. He has received numerous awards for his research including R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine and two NANO 50 Awards from NASA Nanotech Briefs, I.N. Frantsevich Prize from the Ukrainian Academy of Science, S. Somiya Award from the International Union of Materials Research Societies, G.C. Kuczynski Prize from the International Institute for the Science of Sintering, and the R. Snow Award from the American Ceramic Society (3 times). Gogotsi has been elected a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, Fellow of the Electrochemical Society, Academician of the World Academy of Ceramics, and Full Member of the International Institute for the Science of Sintering.
