Alumnus Theodore Scabarozi (Ph.D. 2009, advisor: Michel Barsoum) has been hired as a Corporate Post-Doctoral Researcher at Y-Carbon, Inc. funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Corporate Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. Funded by the NSF as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), this fellowship program supports 40 positions nationwide for one-year research appointments and is administered by ASEE. The fellowships provide recent engineering Ph.D. graduates with the opportunity to work in a corporate setting, contributing to innovative research aimed at promoting scientific excellence and strengthening the nation's technological prowess.
Dr. Scabarozi's thesis work at Drexel University focused on the synthesis and characterization of bulk and thin film carbides, which resulted in the discovery of new materials and generated six publications. Dr. Scabarozi will work under the mentorship of Dr. Ranjan Dash (co-founder and CTO of Y-Carbon, Inc.; MBA/MSE Ph.D. '06, advisor: Yury Gogotsi) and will collaborate with leading national laboratories and universities worldwide to advance Y-Carbon's technology.
