Department of Materials Science and Engineering faculty A. W. Grosvenor Professor Michel Barsoum and Trustee Chair Professor Yury Gogotsi have been recognized as two of the most cited researchers in the College of Engineering during the past year.

Additionally, according to the ISI Web of Science, both have  h-indexes of 41 and 40, respectively.  A researcher's h-index is the highest number of papers they have published which have each amassed at least that number of citations.

Professor Michel Barsoum:

  • Number of papers published in 2009: 15
  • Hirsch (h) index = 41
  • # citations in 2009: > 1000
  • # citations in 2010 to date: 600

Professor Yury Gogotsi:

  • Number of papers published in 2009: 21
  • Hirsch (h) index = 40
  • # citations in 2009: > 1000
  • # citations in 2010 to date:  > 700

For comparison, an analysis of chemical engineering publications published in 2008 reveals that the average number of papers per faculty per year at number one in the field MIT was 6.5 and the number of citations per faculty per year was 123.
