MSE Students Receive Scholarships and Poster Awards at ASM Philadelphia Liberty Bell Chapter Meeting

At the April ASM International Philadelphia Liberty Bell Chapter meeting on Thursday, April 21st, five MSE students received awards.

B.S./M.S. student Pelin Kansu (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) and B.S./Ph.D. student Amanda Pentecost (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) were two of three students selected to each receive a $1,500 scholarship.  In total there were 11 scholarship applicants.

The three winners of the C.F. Burns Poster Contest were:

1st Place ($500) - B.S. in Fashion Design/Ph.D. in MSE Kristy Jost (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) for "Fabrics Capable of Capacitive Energy Storage" by Kristy Jost, Carlos R. Perez, John McDonough, Volker Presser, Genevieve Dion, and Yury Gogotsi

2nd Place ($300) - Ph.D. student Jake McDonough (advisor: Yury Gogotsi) for "Effect of Carbon Onion Annealing Temperature on Structure and Electrochemical Behavior" by Jake McDonough, Chris Miller, Teresa Ubieto, Volker Presser, Junjie Niu, Vadym Mochalin, Pierre-Louis Taberna, Patrice Simon, and Yury Gogotsi

3rd Place ($200) - Ph.D. student Jennifer Atchison (advisor: Caroline Schauer) for "Fabrication and characterization of electrospun semiconductor nanocrystal-polyelectrolyte ultra-fine fiber composite" by Jennifer Atchison and Caroline Schauer

As a bonus, Pelin was the winner of the student raffle.
