Six Materials Ph.D. Students Receive 2013 Drexel Engineering Graduate Fellowship Awards

Six materials Ph.D. students have been awarded fellowships from Drexel's College of Engineering.  The award recipients are as follows:


Harry Brown Fellowship Fund
•    Shan Cheng (advisor: Christopher Li), $1,000

This fund is used to provide financial assistance to graduate level students in the College of Engineering based on academic merit and financial need.


George Hill, Jr. Endowed Fellowship Fund
•    Babak Anasori (advisor: Michel Barsoum), $6,000

This fund is used to provide a stipend and/or tuition assistance to graduate students who will be partially supported by a research or teaching assistantship in the College of Engineering. Recipients have demonstrated excellence in their undergraduate and graduate careers and the potential to achieve academic excellence at the Ph.D. level.  One award is made to each department.


Joseph and Shirley Carleone Endowed Fellowship Fund
•    Joshua Young (advisor: James Rondinelli), $1,500

This fund is used to provide financial assistance to graduate students in the College of Engineering.  Selection is based on academic merit and financial need.


Leroy Resser Endowed Fellowship Fund
•    Jake McDonough (advisor: Yury Gogotsi), $1,500

This fund is used to provide financial assistance, in the form of awards, to graduate students in the College of Engineering, based on academic merit and financial need.


Koerner Family Awards
•    Mark Scafetta (advisor: Steven May), $5,000
•    Gregory Vetterick (advisor: Mitra Taheri), $5,000

This fund is used to provide financial assistance to graduate students in the College of Engineering. Each applicable department selects one or more recipients who have successfully completed their respective departmental candidacy examination toward a Ph.D., can provide proof of U.S. citizenship, and submits a resume and a written summary of the research undertaken at the end of the academic year. Recipients are selected and advised by members of the non-tenured faculty of each department.
