The Professorship is sponsored by the Shanghai City Government.

Shih received the honor during his sabbatical year and it has allowed him to stay at SSPU for three months to interact with the College of Urban Development and Environmental Engineering in their education and research.  While at SSPU, he had the honor to be received by the President of the University who acknowledged his participation as an Oversea Distinguished Professor and expressed his interest in further interaction with Drexel University.

In September, Shih was also awarded a Visiting Professorship of National Taiwan University funded by a grant from the National Science Council of Taiwan, also for the 2013-2014 academic year.
