Matthew, Janah and Frannie published their paper on thiolated chitosan thin films in Biomacromolecules, 2008, 9(1).
Dr. Schauer was invited to write a review paper, "A Review: Electrospinning of biopolymer nanofibers and their applications" for Polymer Reviews.
Jessica was the MATPAC Best Graduate Student Award recipient.
Dr. Schauer was a keynote speaker and a chair for the biofuels section at the SMCBS Meeting in Wlodowice, Poland. Valerie Binetti has joined the group as a new PhD student; Valerie is also a recipient of a Drexel Provost Fellowship.
Dr. Schauer is the co-PI of two grants on daylighting: the Synergy grant ($10k) and a grant from Green Building Alliance ($20k): “Low-energy Luminous Surfaces: Residential Lighting Using Ceelite Lec Technology” Co-PI with Drs. Wen and Ellis.
Dr. Caroline L. Schauer received an IREE supplement of $15,160 from the NSF to support her international collaboration with colleagues at the IRI/IEMN Cité Scientifique Villeneuve d'Ascq (France).  Funds will support extended travel visits in 2007-08 for several NSF REU participants to carry out research involving the fabrication, characterization and modeling of chitosan materials and devices as part of an NSF-EEC funded REU site entitled “SENSORS: from Design to Implementation.”
Jessica Schiffman’s manuscript “One-Step Electrospinning of Cross-Linked Chitosan Fibers” published in Biomacromolecules, 2007, 8(9), 2665-2667.
Congratulations to graduated lab members Jennifer (B.S./M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering) and Frannie (B.S./M.S. in Civil Engineering)!
Jessica Schiffman was awarded a Drexel Teaching Assistant Excellence award for her work in the tDEC curriculum.
Dr. Caroline Schauer organized the “Functional Organic Materials” session at the 2007 ACS Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM). Jessica and Matthew presented talks, Holly and Jennifer presented posters.
Jessica Schiffman won 1st Prize in the ASM Chapter Graduate Student Poster Competition.
Matthew Cathell presented talk at the ACS Spring 2007 National Meeting in Chicago.
Dr. Schauer presents talk at ACS National Meeting in San Francisco entitled “Structurally colored, thin biopolymer films.”http://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/abstract.cgi/bomaf6/2008/9/i01/abs/bm700845z.htmlhttp://pubs.acs.org/cgi-bin/abstract.cgi/bomaf6/2008/9/i01/abs/bm700845z.htmlhttp://www.materials.drexel.edu/News/Item/?i=2580http://www.materials.drexel.edu/News/Item/?i=2580http://www.science24.com/event/smcbs2007/http://www.materials.drexel.edu/News/Item/?i=2578http://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=meetings%5Csanfrancisco2006%5Chome.htmlhttp://www.chemistry.org/portal/a/c/s/1/acsdisplay.html?DOC=meetings%5Csanfrancisco2006%5Chome.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0shapeimage_1_link_1shapeimage_1_link_2shapeimage_1_link_3shapeimage_1_link_4shapeimage_1_link_5shapeimage_1_link_6shapeimage_1_link_7
